Within this brochure there are plenty of gamecover crop solutions, mixtures for wildlife and farmland birds, crops for pollinators, grass buffers & field margins and wildflower mixtures. We have also included a sowing guide and a crop solutions chart, to help you solve some of the more common problems you may encounter.
Our trial site near Lincoln produced some excellent results this year, but the crop which stood out the most was the millets – their seed yields and feed potential were far better than previous years and allowed for a wider window of seed production.
Grain sorghum also grew well, creating fantastic cover and giving structure to some of the seed mixtures. We are continuing to monitor the uptake of the Countryside Stewardship Scheme, but if you are coming out of ELS or HLS this year, there are still some opportunities that may help you (see pages 22-23). By keeping it simple and choosing areas of land that work, you can easily establish either a pollen and nectar or a wild bird seed mixture – both of which will benefit our precious wildlife.
