Odyssey has shown a high yield potential in treated trials; 4% above Concerto.
Odyssey also has a higher untreated yield; 2% above Concerto. Odyssey’s treated yield potential offers growers a malting variety that competes with feed varieties. Odyssey has produced high yields in all the major spring barley growing regions of the UK.
Odyssey has similar straw attributes to the leading market variety Concerto, with a slightly later maturity date. Odyssey has good physical grain quality with a high specific weight and low levels of screenings. Odyssey has a high Hot water extract (HWE), low grain nitrogen and is a non Glycosidic Nitrile (GN) producer, making it very attractive to the distilling and brewing industries.
Odyssey carries approval from the Institute of Brewing and Distilling (IBD) for malt distilling and brewing. Odyssey has a very good disease resistance package with very high ratings for resistance to mildew and Rhynchosporium; the main spring barley diseases.
